From Diaries and Reminisces, compiled by Bob Tonseth, is explorer and Hudson Bay Fur Trading Company's manager out of Canada diary of his explorations along the Pacific Coast, the Columbia River and northeastern Washington Territory. Fort Okanogan was initially a trading company location, not a military fort. It was operational during the fur trading period of 1810-1850. The diary is sixty-nine pages and was originally published in the Wenatchee Daily World in April, 17, 1925. The topics covered in the diary are: Hawaiian Islands, exploring by ship, Native Americans, Columbia River, founding of Astoria, natives of the loewr Columbia River, Astoria to the Narrows, Narrows to Okanogan, Adventures of Ramsey Crooks and John Day, Ft. Okanogan operations, and trading activites on the Spokane and Snake Rivers. |
